I believe they are completely safe - not made in China! i.e, not toxic - do not splinter, completely digestible, etc. (I do take them away once the remnant is small enough to be a choking hazard.) Long-lasting for my puppy, not so long for my 5-year-old (power-chewer that he is). Once they've been started, they're pretty stinky, so just keep your nose away from it and let your dog enjoy the stink.
