My dogs love it!

I have a pomeranian mix weighing approx 12lbs. He loves motorcycle rides and I needed an inexpensive yet secure carrier to place him in. I purchased an Outward Hound front carrier and when I finally received it I couldn't wait to take my baby out for a ride. It took a few minutes to adjust the straps to find the most secure fit. In order to properly fit my dog so that he is not leaning forward and the feeling that he is about to fall out is to crisscross the back straps. The design of the pack allows you to unsnap and snap the straps in two positions (standard or crisscross). My pom has no issues with it and I love having him in front with me when we ride :)

Only for very little (and lightweight) dogs

I have a 9 pound rat terrier that would have loved to 'hang out' with me in a front carrier. When we finally got this to 'almost' fit, maybe it was because he is a bit 'chesty' but this totally did not work for us. Once all snug and secure on him (approach like a diaper while they stand), I hoisted the straps to me. He fell forward and although he did not fall out, he was not snug to me. His haunches were uncomfortable. No. This wasn't for us. Might be for you.

Didn't work as I had hoped.

Our 5-month-old miniature schnauzer puppy has congenital megaesophagus. If you have never heard of this, you are not alone. Basically, her esophagus has no motility to move food down through it to her stomach, so she had a big pocket that has formed in her esophagus where the food collects. Unless she is fed in an upright position and then is held upright for 30-60 minutes after feeding, she vomits the food back up. I encourage you to learn more about this condition at the following website: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/megaesophagus/. Because our puppy must be held upright a lot out of necessity (multiple feedings of blended food, 5 kinds of medication, etc.), I was looking for something that would keep her in the upright position required for her disease, yet allow me to get something done at the same time. Because our puppy is still growing, I did not want to invest in having one of the recommended Bailey chairs custom-made for her since it should be made to exacting size measurements. Unfortunately, this carrier does not work as I had hoped. For one thing, the description says that it is for dogs up to 10 pounds and our puppy only weighs 6 pounds, yet her torso was too long and her front legs would not fit through the "arm" openings. I also found that, no matter how I adjusted the straps, our puppy was always leaning forward enough that it threw off my balance and I was afraid that she would fall out of the carrier. No matter how I adjusted it, the straps kept sliding off my shoulders. Lastly, my puppy came to hate this carrier and kicked and growled if I tried to put her in it. I only had her in it 2 times, but that was enough for her. I have a sling carrier by the same manufacturer that she loves so it isn't that our dog doesn't like carriers at all. Unfortunately, I am going to have to return this item. There is another carrier that is similar to this without the leg openings that I am going to try. I hope it works to get us through these next few months until our puppy is full-grown and we can have a Bailey chair custom-made for her.
