I bought a 500 for my 75 gallon and it works great! Very quiet and mine is on top of the tank on the glass lid!! The price is awesome too!! Over 20 years ago I bought a whisper pump and I remember it was quiet.... When doing research about their modern pumps I didn't see many perfect reviews. I FOUND OUT that this company who makes THIS Fusion pump is the original whisper pump developer!!! I read the guy who sold the whisper pumps off to another company was disappointed in how the quality dropped so he started a new company... to make these Fusion pumps!!! Okay I don't know if this is a wives tale, BUT this is one SERIOUSLY quiet pump and I HATE NOISE coming from my tank! I mean like i neurotically hate noise.... As in trickling water irritates me!! The bubbles coming from the open tubing on one of my applications was louder than the pump! The dial on top to lessen or heighten the amount of air pressure is great! So get one level up, a bigger one than you need and you can dial it down if you have to!!!

The dual output is great on this unit. The adjustable output is a plus too. It's super quiet if set to the low to med range and only noticeable at the hi to max settings. Used this to power to wooden air diffusers and works great. Haven't had any problems.

After reading reviews I figured I'd be getting a great air pump with decent power. After hooking this up in my tank, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at just how well it works. I only have it running to 4 things (1 outlet is going to a 3-way gang valve with 2 smaller airstones and a diver while the other is going to a 12" airstone) but they're pumping out bubbles like there's no tomorrow! This pump is whisper quiet (not really distinguishable with very little ambient noise) and the adjustable flow dial is a nice added feature.

THIS PUMP NOT ONLY IS PRICED CHEAP. IT'S PERFORMANCE GOT BETTER AFTER RUNNING FOR A DAY. IT ACTUALLY GOT QUIETER AND THE AIR PRESSURE INCREASED. I'VE GOT A TOTAL OF 5' OF AIR WAND IN MY 100GAL TANK AND IT HAS THE BEST AIR PATTERN NOW. BUBBLES FROM END TO END AND NO VOIDS.

On June 23, 2011:
I love my Fusion 500 - it's economical and still performing over 2+ years after purchase. It has outlived another pump that was almost twice the price and was rated for more gallons, both purchased at same time. I've used the Fusion to power a sponge filter for 100 gal Koi tub and aerate another tub & now it's used to power 2 air stones on UG filter in my 55 gal tropical tank. I've been looking for a repair kit for it and had no luck, maybe because it won't need one? The repair kit for the above mentioned pump that failed will cost over 55 % of the cost of that pump originally and more than what I can buy another Fusion 500 for - guess what I'll spend the money on>

We learned that the designer of the Original Whisper pumps came back into the business after about 20 years to sell his pump once again. He thought that Tetra had diminished the quality & his reputation, so he is back in the business. We are very happy with our pump--it is quiet, sleek, and much more cost effective than any other on the market. Quality product.

On October 31, 2009:
This product did not meet any of its claims. It barely supplies 2 small air stones in an under-gravel filter on a 55 gal tank. The fine tuning knob is usless. Buy anything else; this is junk. My rating on this product is a negative 5. Please don't waste your money.

On March 23, 2009:
This is a super quiet air pump or at least the 400 model is. The pump isn't powerful but does get the job done. The 400 should probably be rated for 5-15 gallons. I gave the pump 4 stars. If the pump was more powerful i would have given it a 5.
