This unit does fit Aqueon Quietflow 30 power filters. It was easy to install with no modification required. The unit is easy to set up and adjust and within minutes it is skimming and clearing the water of those small debris particles. Truly an effective and reasonably priced product.

Not compatible with all types of filterers, but going through my old aquarium supplies I found a black rubber elbow that with a bit of hot water was able to make it slip over my piping. Dialed it in and I was surface skimming in no time. This thing does such a great job my fish love their temporary quarantine tank a little bit better.

I probably spent 15 hours looking for 'the best' protein skimmer - in order to get that 'nasty stuff' off the surface of my otherwise immaculate 30 gal saltwater system. The skimmer I nearly bought was nearly $300. Then I came across this and I thought, "This makes sense! And if it does what it says it will do...and it does what it appears designed to do...this will accomplish what I want to do! And if it doesn't...I'm only out $8 + shipping!" So I ordered it, instructions totally lame, but not hard to figure out. I have a Fluval 206 and I had it installed in 5 minutes. Very simply, you replace the 'stock' pickup tube with this device. VERY easy. Adjustment is beyond simple! It is completely effective and for once, I've saved money and accomplished the very same thing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I would suggest that it does cut down on flow - but not a great deal. And what I'm doing is adjusting it to where it is not skimming at which point flow is close to 100%. When I want to skim the surface, I give the adjustment a couple turns . . . it is skimming . . . and the surface is clear in less than 30 minutes. SAVE YOUR MONEY! If you want to clear the surface of your tank, you can very effectively do it with this exceptionally well designed device. Also, if you have it 'opened up' too much . . . you'll get bubbles. If you do, just close it down a bit - they'll stop completely.

I got this in and have never been happier. There's no more film at the top of my tank. I looked into doing a DIY version, but for how well it works and price. You can't skip out on this. I like how you can adjust it to prevent gargling and that it floats with the water level. Some DIY setups don't allow for that and will gargle depending on water level. Overall, better than DIY and cheaper too.

On January 29, 2012:
I bought this because my FW planted tank had an oily residue on the surface. I run Pressurized CO2 so I didn't want much surface agitation. Connected this to my RENA XP3 but canister would lose its prime after about 10 minutes. Could be the high pressure head on the canister motor from having UV light and CO2 atomizer in-line and the surface skimmer was just too much. In any case I returned it. Did not work for me. Got a Fluval C3 and it does the job of keeping surface oil-free without too much surface movement.

On August 3, 2010:
The difference in water quality is amazing. The surface is like glass, the tank looks better because the light can penetrate the surface better, and my cichlids seem much happier. I should have gotten this much sooner. No cons on this so far, running for a couple of weeks now.

I run mine on a Maxi-Jet 1200, feeding directly into my DIY protein skimmer. Mine connected perfectly to the intake of my MaxiJet 1200 without using the included hose they give you. This surface skimmer is hard to beat for the price. Every once in a while you'll need to fiddle with the adjustment on it, but it's not a hassle. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the suction cups that hold it are a bit cheezy. I use this on a 25 gallon tank, and that seems to be it's useful limit. On larger tanks you'll want to go with something more beefy.

Good alternative to buying a whole new skimmer, makes the surface water very clear without agitation, for those with planted tanks and are concerned with CO2 loss.
