Rio Rio Nano Skimmer Aquarium Skimmers at Pet Mountain

Great filter and skimmer (for $25) only if you can get it to FINE tuned. It's extremely hard to get this to work correctly. Once you get the bubble (skimmer) to run correctly, the filter loses suction and you have to start the whole process over again. This would work great if the skimmer have it's own pump!

The Rio nano skimmer is a great skimmer for the price. The skimmer will not produce foam right away, it took me a week to produce some foam. Tip: push intake Venturi all the way down, then raise it a little bit till it start to produce bubbles. I would recommend this skimmer to a friend. Pet Mountain has the best deals ever!!

Being a rookie on a nano reef tank (20gallon long) It is hard to believe that I have to get a skimmer. I did not know what a skimmer is until I did some research. Across my research I found my own Nano skimmer with FILTER. This skimmer works perfect for me because it is cheap. Being in the saltwater hobbies CHEAP is all you need. I am on a tight budget after setting up my reef. Thus, cheap is not only the thing i get out of. It is working fine in my tank right now. Though, it takes time to adjust but if you get it right you will be happy with it!

Instructions are *Not* great out of the box. Definitely see the video on YouTube. Key tip that I found helpful is to get a small air valve control for air pumps (get 5 plastic ones for $1-2.), and attach with a short piece of air tubing to the "air plunger". The "air plunger" is vertically adjustable, however, I cannot seem to get it just right. After I push it to the right level, I use the air valve to tighten and customize less air flow until I get good bubbles. I tighten it a little more because a setting that is "too loose" may be a problem when the skimmer looses power and has to create a vacuum to such the water through the intake riser. Simulate a power outage by unplugging and replugging in 1 minute to see if it can pull water through the intake. If it won't pull, then tighten the air valve to reduce the amount of air through. (Again, you're supposed to be able to customize by adjusting it vertically, but I had problems and use a plastic air valve instead.)

Working fine, easy set up (view the video). Very little bio load in my tank so far, so no real skimming going on. However, it is quiet, multiple adjustments, seems like an excellent product for the price, especially with the difficulty of finding small external skimmers. I had to hang it on the side of the tank, as it is too wide, in combination with my filter, for the back.

I have this skimmer on 20gal tank ,and its doing a great job. I'm going to buy another skimmer ..

I bought this product for my 20 gallon and it has done a great job for me for the price!!
