I've only had the turbotwist for about 9 mos. I notice when it isn't on, more algae and water more cloudy. Only complaint is I had to replace both the pump and the light after only 9 mos.

The Coralife Turbotwist UV sterilizer works great. It keeps the water in my aquarium crystal clear and free of algae. However, the 9W lamp burned out after only 2 months of use. I'm buying a new bulb and hoping it was just a fluke as it's supposed to work 1 to 1.5 years before replacement.

My aquarium that had been crystal clear for about three years, began suffering bouts of algae last summer. I'm not a big fan of maintenance, so I would do water changes only when it got really bad. Finally everything, live plants, plastic plants, wood ornament and rocks, were covered with thick green surface algae. Finally took it all out of the tank, scrubbed everything down, scrubbed the tank walls (my fish hated me) and rebuilt from the ground up. Finished the work and admired my new clean tank... the water was clear, and the fish seemed happy. While changing the filter I realized that I had a UV sterilizer under the stand... and the 4-year old bulb was toast. Ordered a new one, slapped it in, and my clear water became... crystal clear again. While I don't recommend a poor maintenance schedule, if you wrestle AT ALL with algae or just want to notch up the appearance of your tank... buy a UV sterilizer. The bulbs are rated for one year, but I gotta believe mine lasted for nearly three. It puts the exclamation mark on a beautiful tank.
