On March 20, 2011:
I finally got around to buying Gerty Guinea Pig food for my degus, and I was worried they might not like it (most of them are awfully picky for a goo). Turns out they love it, so now I love it. It's nutritionally sound for a degu. Though it is lacking in fiber, that is not a problem since my degus get tons of hay, which is required for a proper diet. The ingredients are as follows: Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, flaked peas, flaked whole corn, ground whole wheat, whole oats, pelleted soybean meal, flaked whole wheat, dehydrated alfalfa meal, flaked whole wheat, kibbled locust bean, dehydrated chopped alfalfa, ground whole corn, anise and fenugreek liquid, soybean oil (preserved with BHT), dried orange peel, ground dried banana, salt, calcium carbonate, sodium sulfate, vitamins (L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate [source of vitamin C], vitamin E supplement, choline chloride, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride [vitamin B6], vitamin A supplement, riboflavin [vitamin B2], thiamine hydrochloride [vitamin B1], folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin D3 supplement), minerals (zinc oxide, manganese oxide, iron sulfate, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, cobalt carbonate, sodium selenite), added fd&c colors (yellow 6, yellow 5, blue 1) I'm not happy about the D3 that's in most, if not all, foods, but I guess you have to pick your battles. This is definitely the only food available in the United States that I would recommend giving to goos.
