Firstly, there are others on the market, but this whistle works, is very sturdy, and offered here at a great price!
That said, I have read reviews on other sites that complain that these type of whistles (other brands as well) are not silent. True, you can hear the whistle; only the ultrasounds are inaudible to the user (unless your dog can blow one of these, in which case the user can hear both).
By varying the frequency adjusting screw in and out, higher and lower ultrasound frequencies can be created....which your dog can hear....not you. Ideally, this works, but adjustment is crude, and the screw works loose, don't expect to fine tune this thing into 10 sounds for 10 dog trick/commands.
Get two whistles, and set one for one extreme, and one for the other. Now teach your dog the two commands of your choice.....and expect the hear the shrill of the whistle...you and your dog (with your dog hearing the two different ultrasound frequencies in the two different whistles).
I have been serious up to this point, and to the lady that uses her whistle "hands free" well, blocking one nostril will allow you to use two whistles hands free, should you wish to teach two commands. Let me know how it works out.
Bottom line: if for nothing else your dog will come if you use this with a dog treat to establish its meaning when it (he-she) comes. I will never be without one....and with my wife misplacing them all the time, I have 6 of them around the house.

I love this little dog whistle. It leaves both hands free unlike a clicker.
