Aqua Cleanse is used to eliminate common chemicals in tap water that are toxic to fish and other aquarium creatures. These chemicals, such as chlorine, chlorinates and ammonia, are in tap water in order to make it safe for us to drink by killing bacteria, viruses and parasites. However, these same chemicals can also kill your fish which is why you need to add Aqua Cleanse to your tap water before setting-up a new aquarium and doing routine water changes.Dosing: Add 5 ml of Aqua Cleanse per 10 gallons of tap water and stir the water for 15 seconds. Aqua Cleanse cannot be overdosed but adding very large amounts of Aqua Cleanse to your aquarium may lower the pH of the water if the water is poorly buffered. How to use: When doing a water change it is best to add the tap water to a clean bucket or trash can (don’t use soap to clean the vessel). Then add the required amount of Aqua Cleanse, stir and it is ready for use. We strongly recommend against adding tap water directly to the aquarium and then adding Aqua Cleanse. Chlorine and chloramines are deadly to fish and even a short exposure can be very harmful to your aquatic pets.Testing your water: Aqua Cleanse is designed to remove 2 ppm of chlorine, 3 ppm of chloramines and 1 ppm ammonia per 10 gallons of water. If your water contains higher values of these chemicals you will have to add more Aqua Cleanse. To be sure you have eliminated these toxic compounds it is best to test your water with simple chlorine and ammonia test kits. The amount of chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia in your water may vary through-out the year because your municipal water authority may add more chemicals after rainy periods or in the spring when algae tends to bloom in lakes and reservoirs.Note: Aqua Cleanse is not compatible with older style ammonia test kits that use what is commonly referred to as Nessler reagents. If you use these reagents the test result will return a false indication of high ammonia. To properly test the ammonia in your water use test kits based on the salicylate methods or test strips.
First Defense® was developed to help fish adapt to new environments by assisting the fishes’ natural immune system.Changing the environment of a fish causes stress that robs fish of essential nutrients and can weaken their immune system. First Defense is scientifically designed to provide stress relief and support the immune system, helping fish cope with stress due to bagging and shipping from the store to your tank, water changes, new fish additions, disease treatments, and other environmental changes.Fish are subject to many stressful events before becoming comfortable in your aquarium. For instance, they were shipped in bags to the store and then chased around the tank, netted and bagged before you took them home. Many times fish are not fed much before shipping so that their waste does not pollute the shipping bag but this can further weaken their immune system. As with people, a weakened immune system means a greater chance of the fish become sick with Ich or a bacterial infection. The mixture of immunostimulants and vitamins in First Defense have been demonstrated to help support the immune system of fish so they can fight off diseases.First Defense also contains buffers to help maintain the water pH. Further, First Defense detoxifies heavy metals and removes chlorine and chloramines.Dosing: Add 5 ml of First Defense per 10 gallons of aquarium water.First Defense cannot be overdosed but adding large amounts may cause your protein skimmer to foam excessively. How to use: Add First Defense to your aquarium water when setting-up a new tank, adding new fish or after partial water changes. While First Defense is not a medication or disease treatment it can be helpful to fish that are currently being treated for diseases by other means.
