Carlson Pet Gates Extra Wide Walk Thru Gate with Pet Door Metal Dog Gates at Pet Mountain

On May 29, 2013:
We have three of these Extra Wide Gates & we love them. We have two dogs & two cats and it keeps the dogs from being able to go upstairs where the cats hang out, but the little door allows the cats to roam the house when they know the dogs are in their crates. We have three different sized places for the gates & the ability to expand the gate is wonderful.

It does exactly as it should- we have it at the bottom of our stairs, it stays up and keeps my 65 and 80 lb dogs where they need to be!

Purchased two for different size entries to kitchen. Easy to install, read directions thoroughly. Gate opens/closes easily. Final test will come when puppy arrives in a couple weeks.

These gates are very easy to install and they are very easy to open. We require access through them often and I like that you just lift up the latch and open the door. I needed the pet door for our three cats and these work perfectly for them. I love these gates where I feel my one year old is secure behind them. I wish they made the opening of the door a couple of inches wider to have more room especially if you are carrying something.

The gates are perfect. The extra piece from my narrow opening gate extended the other gate enough for my larger opening. I have a 5lb teacup poodle and she cannot get through! I work in a lot of homes with pet gates (Some costing two to three times as much) and this gate opens and closes easier than any other I have seen. Sturdy metal construction, attractive and could probably be painted to match your decor.

We bought this gate to keep our two large dogs out of our living room while our infant is playing. We have a very wide (over 90 inches) opening between our living room and dining room. This gate is perfect because we were able to buy the extensions to make it fit perfectly. We also love the walk through gate. It was very easy to assemble. Only took a couple minutes. We really like this product!

On May 28, 2012:
We've used this gate at the bottom of the stairs for the past year with our first Corgi (23 lbs.) to contain her to the downstairs. We bought it because of the small pet door inside the larger human door. We have 2 cats, and we knew in the future we'd need to move the gate to the upstairs bedroom door where we keep the litter box in order to keep our Corgi out. Word of caution...The day finally came to move it from the downstairs and place it on the bedroom door. We got it in place, and opened the small pet door to allow the cats access. Our cats AND the corgi walked right through it! We improvised by shutting the smaller cat door and removing one of the bars from inside the cat door with a hacksaw. Now, the cats can get through that space in the bars easily, but the Corgi can't. We're now ordering a second to use at the bottom of the stairs to contain our newest Corgi family addition. This gate is SO much safer than a "step over" gate at the bottom of a flight of stairs. GREAT product!

On May 10, 2012:
Because of the curved bar on the sides of the extension, my 10 pound dog's head became pinned between the wall and the bar. If I had left Cricket for hours (instead of 15 minutes) while I was at work, I can only picture the nightmare I'd come home to! Had the bars been straight, no issue. Ignore the small pass through gate and the picture of the cat. Only use this for big dogs.

First off, we had purchased this gate from a large pet store franchise at double the price. Second, finding them here at a substantial savings was beyond belief (not counting the convenience of having it delivered right to your front door). We have a two-story house where I needed to stop our 13-year-old lab from going up and down the stairs and repeatedly following me from room to room due to his hip issues. He was falling and injury was a real concern. These have saved him additional discomfort and me from additional anxiety. They are so incredibly easy to put up. You can move them to where ever you need them or use the little cuppie things to make them more permanent. The bottom gate is great for smaller pets (ie, stopping dogs from getting to cat food and litter box). Just love these gates. Great buy, outstanding product. Swinging gate is awesome, just be sure you mount it in the right direction!

On March 3, 2012:
Ordered the Carlson gate not quite knowing what I was getting. The gate is very sturdy, easy to assemble, looks nice, etc. However, it is not as adjustable as I had hoped. Extensions are around 7" and 13", with main piece about 29". Works great for standard size entries, but if you have an odd size, doesn't work. Was hoping to use it on the staircase (42" opening), but the longer extension was too big & the shorter one left gaps on the end about 3" wide, which my dog (4 lb yorkie) could squeeze through.

On December 15, 2011:
Both of these pet gates arrived in just a standard box that they came in. They had little to no protection around them to take the abuse that Fed-x gave them. If it wasn't such a hassle to send them back I would have. The few scratches and a bent pole is the result of the lack of proper shipping.

The gate arrived on time as promised. I had looked at other gates that were more expensive and was quite pleased with the quality of this gate. It is sturdy and easy to install.

I recently purchased a Carlson Pet Gate because the specs said the distance between the bars was 2.3 inches. I also read reviews from other Chihuahua owners who praised this Product. I have a small Chihuahua who is an escape artist so I measured her head & felt secure she could not liberate herself with such a small opening. Well the distance between the bars is about 2.5 inches & the gap by the gate is closer to 2.75 inches, needless to say my little girl walked through it like it was not there. That being said for price & quality I think it is a good product. It will still be cheaper for me to modify this product than it would have been for me to fabricate one myself.

On March 30, 2011:
We have one of those "clamp down" wooden gates and it was becoming way too to difficult to step over it when using. This gate is very sturdy and so much better! We were just going to use it when we boarded dogs and needed to separate pets. But it is attractive enough and so easy to use that we have kept it installed. Installation was easy and it can be moved just as easily!

I bought three of this over a year ago and it has since been working great for me and my pet's needs. Easy to install and easy to transport. When a friend of mine dog sits my pet, I bring one of the gates over. I use one of the gate to block of my dog from playing with my cat's kitty litter in the bathroom. The other two closes off the kitchen area for my dog when I need to leave my place rather than leaving my dog in a cramped crate.

I bought one of these gates and it has worked perfectly for my pets. I have a greyhound and a doxie. When the greyhound gets to playful for the doxie the small door allows her a way to get away from him until she is ready to play again. I am getting 3 more of these

We already had one Carlson gate for one of the bedrooms. But with a second dog, and a new inherited cat (#5, all indoor) I was at my wit's end with the dogs chasing the cats up the stairs. This fits perfect at the top of our stairs; did not drill into the banister but just pressure mounted it (it just barely is wide enough). I tie-wrapped the little door open so the cats can go in. The dog is still chasing but can't go further than the top of the stairs, and the cats have more freedom up there. Moved the smaller gate downstairs so the new cat has his own space (and dogs can look but don't get in). Dogs are 87 and 50 pounds. Great price and I'm very happy with it.

These gates are a life saver in my home! I care for multiple dogs and often need to zone them in or out of a particular room. These gates are sturdy, can be opened with one hand and have held up for over a year with no breakage or malfunction. I am buying two more today! They put all other gates I have used to shame! A good value for the money.

I just started using my pet gate w/cat door last week. It's perfect as it keeps my dog out of the basement yet allows my cats to go through the gate. The negative is the size of the gate/door that opens. It is very narrow. I just fit through it. Larger people that have come to my house cannot get through the gate door. Laundry baskets will not fit through so when I carry a basket of laundry up the stairs, I have to hoist it over the gate which is uncomfortable and not safe. If the gate door were even 3" wider, this pet door would be perfect!

My dog is 1 year old, weighing in at a massive 4 pounds :) It took her maybe an hour to figure out she could squeeze through the bars. I haven't found a great solution, but used press and seal wrap to press against the bars on the opposite side so she gets a little resistance when she tries to step through - clearly not a long term solution so I'll need to figure out something else. It was relatively easy to assemble although I didn't bother to read the instructions. It's tension mounted, so if you use additional extensions, like I did, it will be difficult to put up by yourself since you have to basically hold all pieces together and then start tightening the edges to hold it in place. I managed ok and it works well, just wish my puppy wasn't so sneaky...

We ordered a gate to put at the top of the stairs because we have a chihuahua who's a runner (It was almost impossible to get in and out of the house without her escaping). I love this gait! It's easy to operate and is highly effective. In fact, we ordered two more to block off other parts of the house. TY Pet Mountain, you've made my life so much easier. :)

The extension work perfectly for our gate. Our gate is white but I could not find the white extension anywhere. It does not look that bad but I would have preferred the white extension

This is my second gate. I purchased it for my daughter who has a cat and a lab. I've used mine for 6 months that I got at a garage sale. Easy to move and kid proof with the lock on top. My grand babies are 15 and 18 months and can play with the gate when not locked but can not open it when it is. I use the extension in my kitchen area that has a large opening, and also in my back hallway with the regular opening.

The gate is easy to install, and it keeps out large dog out of the living room. I don't know if it would hold if he started really pushing against it, but that's probably the price you pay for not having it permanently fastened to the wall. It is exactly the product we needed. It even looks attractive.

We just received the gate in the mail the other day. Unfortunately, the standard size is too small for the opening which we need the gate for (our opening is 49", I measured wrong, my fault!) The quality of the gate is great, and the material looks very nice. Now we just need 1 extension and we will be golden!

I love this gate! For years we struggled with a tension gate in the doorway 8 inches off the floor to allow the cat in and out and contain the dogs. It fell out regularly. We tripped over it. Now, everybody is happy. The cat started walking through the little door while I was installing it. Installation was a breeze, by the way.

We bought the gate to keep our small dog from marking on the bedroom carpets where previous tenant's pets had gone. Since we mounted it in the hallway, we use it constantly. My husband is large, but he doesn't have any trouble passing through the gate.

The cat door is too big, but as far as I'm concerned, that was a perk anyway. We had tried the wall mounted gate, but the dogs (and humans climbing over it) ripped it out of the wall. We had a 62 inch doorway to gate, so the 6" and 12" extension fit the bill. This gate is sturdy, and the door isn't hard to open at all. THANK YOU!!

This pet gate has saved me time and frustration. We were using two wood baby gates that had to be moved each time you went into the hall. Now the cats just shoot through their special door and the dogs respect the barricade. Wish I would have ordered the taller model instead of the wider model since one of the cats love to launch itself from the top of the gate into the living room, but that was my error. Even though we live in a trailer it looks much nicer with the Carlson Pet Gate. Glad you had it at such a reasonable price and a nice little discount on top to sweeten the deal. Thank you.

I was in search for a gate that my 4 year old could operate. I finally found one. I put this gate at the bottom of my staircase so that my dog could not go into the carpeted area of my house. I love it...easy to install and easy to use. I am getting another one today!

The gate don't stay tightened even though when setting it up it is extremely tight but you half to always tighten it up... the doors don't line up right if the door jams are not perfect... very disappointed.

Bought to allow disabled cats downstairs without letting our toddler upstairs. Gate is easy to open compared to our previous gate. Down side is the gate only swings one direction meaning it either blocks the front door or access to stairs when open. Also the opening is smaller than our other gate making it difficult to carry things though. The cups are nice and keep the gate in place without pulling the paint off as our previous gate did.

Great product for the most part. Set up was a breeze. However, I ran into the same problem that a lot of people seemed to run into in that my 35 lb. dog managed to walk right through the cat door!!! That sort of defeated the purpose of the gate for the most part but luckily my dog is great about staying where I tell him to. If i needed to run errands then I'd just close the cat door to keep all my critters contained to one part of the house. Overall, not a bad product. Plus, you absolutely can't beat the price. I couldn't find this product for any less anywhere else...not even at a huge retail chain store known for its "everyday low prices." Delivery was super quick and customer service diligent about letting me know that part of my order was out of stock and my account would be refunded. I'm super-impressed with PetMountain! I've ordered from quite a few online pet stores and this is the first time I've felt compelled to comment on the awesome service.

The three gates I ordered are great. They went up fairly easily and are sturdy and look fine. I specifically got the one with the cat door so that my cats could still have access but the dogs were confined. So what's the problem? I went to clean the cat box (gated door to keep dogs out) and the tootsies were gone. Huh? Couldn't figure that out until today when the doorbell rang and the dogs ran through the cat door slick as a whistle to see who was there. Mystery solved. The cat box is clean because the dogs are able to sneak through the cat door and go tootsie diving yet. I think the cat door needs to be smaller because now the gates are essentially worthless to me. My dogs are American Eskimos (35 lbs) so getting through that door looked like it would be impossible. Buyer beware. The dogs can still get through! Great gates, but ...

Overall exactly what we needed. Easy to install and doesn't wobble. Handle lock large and easy to operate even in the dark. Some of the welds, especially on the cat door, are messy and the cat door latch is just waiting to pop off. Good for out needs.

We ordered 2 of the Extra Wide Carlson Walk Thru Pet Gates and we love them! The 2 main reasons we love them are... they look nice in our newly remodeled living room AND they are very easy to open and close. It truly does just take one hand. They are also easy to install and do not have to be permanently attached to the wall...another plus! Our cats love the pass thru door and it does not allow our mid-size dog to go through (although...if she REALLY wanted to, I think she might be able to...it is that big.). Little dogs could definitely go through. I personally wish the cat door opening was a little smaller and that the doors could be removed since we just leave them open all the time for the cats anyway. I think this would be a nice feature, and smaller doors would definitely keep our dog out. So far, so good though, and we are very pleased! It was worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this door!

I like these gates as they keep my jumper Yorkie in. The only downfall is that my puppy can walk through the slats (she is a 2 1/2 lb Yorkie). This is also the best price for these gates at this site.

This gate works perfectly at the bottom of our stairs to keep our 2 teen age Miniature Schnauzers from running out the door to the garage; yet enabling us to go up and down the stairs in our tri-level and in and out of the garage to the house. Once we figured out the instructions, it was a breeze (the manufacturer needs to make the directions easier to figure out- too many pages and not in order). That's the only reason we didn't give it a 5 star. Pet Mountain is a great Company to find quality products for your pets.

Works great only the bars are too far apart.. my cat can easily fit her head through. A version for narrower doors would have been perfect. With narrow doors either the gate itself is not secure or the lock does not function properly. I have the gate secure and have to step over the gate.

When I have puppies I do not want the other house dogs in the same room with the puppies and mother. The Carlson Pet Product gate has been excellent, it allows the door to be open, so I can hear the puppies, but not allow the other dogs or cats into the room. The gate is easy to clean, and the dogs are not inclined to chew the bars, as with the wooden gates.

On January 11, 2008:
When I have a litter of puppies, I do not want the other dogs going into the puppy room. The Carlson Pet Product gate is durable, the dog have not pushed it out of the door frame. My puppies and the mother dog are secure from other dogs. The gate is easy to clean and the dogs are not incline to chew the metal as with the wooden gates. When I do not have puppies, the gate is up, I can allow the cats into the room, but not the dogs. The small insert door is very handy.

Works Great. Does not hurt the walls in our new house! Our only problem is our 6 month old female shepard can somehow still fit through the cat door. It is entertainng and amazing to watch her do this!!

I have a 70lb. dog who looks just like the one in the add. He can and does shimmy through the cat door which is only 7 inches by 10 inches. Other wise I love it.

I didn't know what I was going to do when I had to put up baby gates for my 1 yr old. My 18 yr old cat wouldn't be able to jump over. This gates seems like a great solution

We liked this gate very well and when installed it did not damage the walls. It is great for adult dogs or large puppies. We did order the 12 " extension which made it even better.
