Carlson Pet Gates Extra Tall Walk Thru Gate with Pet Door Metal Dog Gates at Pet Mountain

On April 26, 2013:
Overall the gate is of good quality, but the specs say it will expand to 34". The gate is pretty unstable when expanded to that width-too much play in the spindle rods. Had to order the 4" extension as the 6" that comes with the gate added too much width.

I got this gate a couple of days ago...keeps the dog out of the cat boxes...ordering another one today for another room! Easy to set up or remove.

We have a large German Shepherd, and at times it is necessary to keep her out of part of the house. The tall walk thru gate is perfect. Easy to put up when I need it. Well constructed. I would definitely recommend it.

The gate opening is too small. One has to carefully go through the gate to ensure that the gate is not knocked out of place. Serious consideration should be given to the purchase of this product and the number of times it will be used in a day.

Perfect!! We finally found something our 1-1/2yr old lab won't barrel over or through!! Cats can come and go and it keeps him out.....we've been through so many gates and this is by far the best. Good product...service was fast as well....good job!!

The gate seems to work great but the walk through opening is small and makes it hard to "just walk through". If you are carrying something it is even harder.

I ordered these gates knowing they were what we wanted. Not long afterwards they showed up and I had both of them installed in roughly 45 minutes. It's a simple install, simple to use and just love the way they look in comparison to those wooden, expandable ones. Now we can go into the livingroom quickly, and like the white metal look.

Gate was easy to install and use. Even my 2 year old granddaughter can open the gate when she needs to. Gate is nice and tall so our large dog cannot jump over it. Just love it!!

Easy install/remove. Well made. Durable. Very few pieces. Won't damage doors/molding/frames. Very flexible. Only complaint is that basic piece could be a little wider to allow for tighter fit in standard door. As is, screw bolts have to extend so far that enough play remains in them so they move with natural use. And smallest extension is just enough too big to allow for in frame fit.

The cat door does not stay open, I had to use a rubber band to prop it open to keep access for the cat available. It has a little spring knob that requires a human to manually open each time the cat needs to enter if it is not propped open. Otherwise the gate is great and was exactly what I needed to block the dog but leave access for the cat.

My litter box lives in our half bath and my 17 year old cat has been having some trouble making it into the box, leaving accidents on the floor. Because the door had to stay open for access - my dog was constantly gobbling up the mess before I could get to it. This gate solved my issue of leaving the cat access while blocking the dog. Assembly was easy, and even my 5 year old daughter can work the gate latch without any problems.

I bought the extra tall gate a few months ago and was very pleased how easy it was to install. I did it by myself in just 10 minutes! That includes the time it took to read the directions and put the screws in the wall. Yes, the gate can be pressure mounted, but I have two very strong Boxers and I felt the need to add the security of screwing it in place. I cannot comment on the extension piece because I haven't used it, but I will be buying this same gate for the other side of my kitchen and will need the extension there. The only negative aspect of the gate for me is that my family and I have had to get used to stepping over the bottom of the gate. One or two people have forgotten and tripped. My advice... put a bright piece of colored tape or something for visitors to see. This will not stop me from using this gate or buying my second gate.

We went through three gates before purchasing this one. I do have to give it to the Carlson brand...the gate right before this one was the same brand name and definitely was the sturdiest. Our problem was we have a very agile dog. He has jumped over every gate we have bought. So far this one has been perfect. It also has allowed our two cats to enter and leave at will so that they can slowly get use to one another.The latch is easy to use.Set up was simple also. I would recommend this product to any pet owner. I only have one bad thing to say about it...it will not fit into a small door frame. Make sure you measure where you want it before you make your purchase.

This is just what I needed! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The dogs love to get into the litter box - yuck! This allows me to keep them out of that room and allows the cats easy access to get their business done without being bothered! Not flimsy at all! PURRfection!

This is NOT a pressure mounted gate. The pressure at the top relies on bending the frame from the bottom. The bottom cross-bar is so thin that it fails to produce enough pressure. By the time the screws are adjusted to fit the latch correctly it is still so loose at the top that I could push the gate over with two fingers. Imagine how well-trained a big dog would need to be not to just power through it. Count on using the screw-mounted cups or just send it back if your doorway isn't suitable for them. When I finally got everything securely screwed to the walls the gate is functional in a flimsy sort of way. The bolts are so loose in the frame holes that the top of the gate wobbles about 2 inches back and forth. Why didn't they use a round sleeve inside?

We love the height of this gate! The only problem is that the opening is very thin. larger people CANNOT get thru it! make sure you take this into account when ordering!!!!

Great product--so good, in fact, that we ordered a second.  This gate completely solved the problem of the dogs getting into the rooms with the kitty litter and food.

Flimsy, especially when extensions are used. I'm lucky that so far my dog hasn't figured out that a loud bark would probably be enough to make it come tumbling down. Even the "pet door" feature, which is advertised in words and photos as allowing only cats and very small dogs to pass through, doesn't work, as it is so big that a 60 pound Golden Retriever can squeeze through it. Products are available from other retailers which are much better designed and more sturdily constructed, and comparable in price to boot.

This gate does everything we want it to do. I've never come across a gate with an integrated smaller door to allow small pets through...genius! It allows my two small 10lb dogs to pass easily.

The gate works awesome, minus the fact my dog has figured out every way to get out of this gate, including using the cat door and he is 100 pound dog. But if your dog likes to chew, the plastic handle sucks. Mine is done for because of my dog chewing on it.

This has been one of the best things I have ever purchased. It keeps my dogs away from the cat food and litter, and gives my cats a quick getaway from grandkids and dogs! Plus there is the added feature of being able to just open it and walk through instead of stepping over or taking it down every time I have to go into the laundry room--I'd give it 10 stars if possible!

My wife is unable to step over barriers therefore the Pet Gate is perfect. It allows both my wife and dog have easy acess to the controlled area.

I already own one of these gates. They are fantastic for my large dog as well as keeping children safe.

Our 9 year old beagle was diagnosed with slipped discs. He was to be on bed rest. So we purchased the gate to confine him. We also have a cat who needed to get through. This product was perfect for both of our needs. It is sturdy and able to confine my beagle and allows for the needs of our cat as well!

On January 14, 2007:
This is a great product for the home. I would like to know if we can buy another 6" extension for this unit.If so, will we be able to add this to the unit as well.
