Kaytee Aspen Small Pet Bedding and Litter

We use this bedding for our spoiled pet poultry. It is the cleanest, purest, highest quality small animal bedding on the market and we found that Pet Mountain carries it at the lowest prices we can find.

I really like this Aspen Bedding. It smells natural and my (single) guinea pig seems to be content with it. I put a layer of newspaper under the shavings and then pile the Aspen bedding on, it settles after a few days so I usually add a good amount. The bag is huge so it will last quite a while. I change his large cage once every 4-5 days so it won't get a stink to it.

Pet Mountain has the best price I have found on these aspen shavings. The guinea pig rescue goes through a lot of shavings, and the bags arrive very well packed with no leaks whatsoever.

The bulk Aspen shavings are a good value. I use this for my snakes.

I was ordering the same product through a competitor website. The sellers there were ok to start with, but then kept jacking up the price either on product or shipping to make the total price quite higher. So I found Pet Mountain which I hadn't heard about. Same product for about what I was paying initially on amazon including shipping. Product actually seems fresher through Pet Mountain. Speedy delivery too. We use it for our bunnies. I will continue to order through Pet Mountain as long as there's no major price increases.

Roger likes these chips. I keep an open cage for him to get into for litter box and he likes to eat these chips while in there. I have tried others but these are his favorite so I am sticking with them.

If you've done your homework, you know that aromatic wood shavings are a no-no for your small pet as the fumes are harmful to them. First and foremost, Aspen bedding is safe to use; the dust is minimal as well. Secondly, as with most items, when you buy in bulk (sometimes the 4 cubic feet is a little cheaper to purchase than the 8 cubic feet pkg) you save money. This is by far the best price for Aspen shavings I have found either locally or online; purchase enough at one time to receive the free shipping and you're in business! Personally, it behooves me to buy expensive litter that will end up in the trash as fast as a thriftier version. I have two guinea pigs in an X-Large, deep bottom cage. Even with paper litters, I ended up needing to change the cage every three days to keep it hygienic. The more expensive paper litter didn't help any more with odor control either; in fact, it smelled odd; the Aspen shredding is neutral smelling. As for absorbency, I use two small, medical grade chucks or liners, which I also buy in bulk, (they are like training pads for dogs) to line the bottom of the cage. This draws the urine downward from the wood shavings and keeps the plastic below from absorbing the odor over time; it is also easy to roll and gather the wood shavings. In closing, we all come to a system that works for us; using the Aspen shavings as I've described has saved me clean-up time as well as money.

I believe I bought the biggest bag for seven Syrian hamsters. The bag is HUGE for the price. I was very surprised by the softness of the aspen. It's not great, but it's very good. It's a little bit dustier than I would like, and I wouldn't recommend it as the main bedding for any animal, but as a filler with other paper based bedding, it works very well to keep hamster tunnels open.
